The Vancouver Island Construction Association is a not-for-profit association that advocates and fosters resiliency, excellence and prosperity for the construction community on Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and throughout partnerships with additional areas of British Columbia. We are there to support and serve the construction community, whether it be commercial, industrial or mixed-residential focused, encouraging companies to promote fair, open, transparent, and ethical standards of practice, and working towards a prosperous construction community. We promote a greater understanding of the construction industry to policy and decision-makers, and the value it holds within the communities we serve and live in. We are making strides in the industry with programs like Women in Construction, and the Young Builders Network, and have developed a fantastic training program aimed at creating gold-standard practices and work in the construction industry.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Harm Reduction Project Coordinator will work in collaboration with a Special Advisory Committee and in cooperation with other Key Provincial Stakeholders. The Harm Reduction Project Coordinator will work with the Director of Operations to develop, coordinate, and deliver education which serves to enhance access to harm reduction in the Construction Industry.
WHO ARE YOU?
You are first and foremost a self-starter, someone who is well organized and has a positive attitude when tackling projects, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is comfortable liaising effectively with all multi-industry stakeholder groups and advisory committees (even if you aren’t from the construction industry). You are a people person and enjoy working with a diverse group of coworkers remotely, but you also love your autonomy and independence (and are capable of working with minimal supervision). You are well-versed in data gathering and research and have a good intuition and like to run with it. You understand what it is to work with vulnerable populations and have experience working with people who regularly use substances or have substance dependency. You accept people who use substances as they are and are committed to meeting them “where they are” in their lives without judgement. You are passionate about making a difference and creating a lasting positive impact in Prince George and surrounding communities by reducing the stigma associated with substance use and creating tools and new training programs to promote education about harm reduction within the construction industry.
